Seems like entrepreneurship and ambition have to go hand-in-hand in today’s world. I’ve always had trouble with that. I just don’t agree with it. Maybe I’m splitting hairs or I just had a different dictionary growing up. But I think entrepreneurship is fun. It’s supposed to be fun, challenging, full of failure with some really good success mixed in. As it’s been said, a righteous man stumbles seven times but rises seven more.

The drive behind entrepreneurship for myself is wanting to do a good job. Of course I love aspects of my job, but as with most professions, there are things I don’t like as well. For some odd reason I love doing paperwork, I love the meticulousness of it. I absolutely love negotiating and I enjoy working with people a lot. I love teaching people what I do and how I do it and then letting them use my years of experience in real estate to benefit themselves in their purchase or sale of their investment. People are capable of thinking for themselves, but very often don’t have the full story. Those are definitely the times that we live in. I teach as much as I can and watch them make better decisions because of all the information that I provide.

I enjoy doing it right. As the great Ron Swanson once said, “Never do two things halfway. Do one thing the all the way.” Of course I’m paraphrasing, but you definitely get the picture. I had a really good friend and pastor at my church tell me one time that we are puddle deep. We know so many things but none of them very well. He told me spend time getting to know one thing or a few things really really really well. You’ll find there is no bottom to your ability to learn about almost any one particular subject. So dig. That’s why I’ve spent as much time as I can doing. Click To Tweet I’m constantly learning about my field so that I can continue to present the best sales tactics and succeed in my business. I also seek to provide the most relevant infomation to help people make the right decision for themselves.

Commitment to doing a good job of providing good customer service is the key to success in my industry. Click To Tweet Staying consistent and learning new ways to improve matter a lot in customer service. Technically, even though I’m selling houses, and have for sometime, my job has always been and always will be selling good customer service. I believe God has blessed that and will continue to bless that as I try to be faithful with what he’s given me to do. Technically, it’s not my responsibility to make the fruit of my business grow. Click To Tweet But it is my responsibility to tend to the garden God is given me. If I don’t do it, the fruit dies and that’s not His fault.

To me, entrepreneurship isn’t about having a fancy word attached to your job or being able to say that you’re ambitious. It’s about wanting to do a job right. Not a lot of jobs, just one that’s been entrusted to you, something that you’re good at. I feel that I’m very good at negotiating; probably one of my stronger suits. However, when I’m not interested or yielded to God’s will and purposes every day, my strongest suit becomes my worst enemy. I get to do what I like to do, a good job. And it’s not half bad getting paid to do it as well.
